This is a very useful essential oil, sometimes spelled Tea Tree,
But not camellia tea. Native to New South Wales, this stunted tree can grow up to six metres tall and thrives in low-moisture areas, but is mostly cultivated on plantations. It's so strong, it continues to thrive after being cut down, and it can be harvested again two years later. Tea tree essential oil is only produced in Australia. The smell of tea trees is fresh, clear and spicy, and obviously disinfected. Due to the extremely light molecular weight, the smell is highly liquid under the influence of the environment. The main component "aminotrephenol" can dissolve mucous and help tea plants to disinfect and penetrate, making it more effective for respiratory tract infection, but it is also one of the reasons for the pungent smell.
